Maya trained extensively in Suzuki pedagogy, including Suzuki Early Childhood Education, and majored in both Voice and Violin performance at Toronto's Humber College. She brings decades of teaching and performance experience to her studio, having previously taught at The Royal Conservatory and The Miles Nadal Suzuki School, and served as a board member of the Suzuki Association of Ontario. Her approach fuses adaptive teaching methods with the best of the Suzuki tradition.
After years of teaching within established institutions, Maya struck out on her own, building her studio at College and Bathurst into one of the city's most sought-after boutique strings programs. She now offers Violin, Voice, Piano, and Theory lessons to students of all ages, from young children just starting out to adults rediscovering an old passion or picking up an instrument for the first time.
Past and present students have performed with Toronto's Mooredale Orchestras and The Royal Conservatory Orchestras, been accepted into Regional Arts programs across the GTA, and gone on to music programs at the University of Toronto, Western University, and UBC.
Whether you're a brand-new student or a returning one, here's everything you need to know about lessons and my studio policies.
Do I really need to practice every day? Consistency matters more than perfection. One or two focused, regular practice session is far more valuable than an unrealistic, up-and-down schedule. Discipline over motivation, we don't wait to "feel inspired." Practicing even when it's hard is part of the process.
What if I'm not progressing as fast as other students? That's completely normal! Every student learns at their own pace. Progress is personal, not competitive.
What should I bring to my lesson? Violin, rosined bow, music/books, notebook, and water. If you're joining online, make sure you're set up and ready before your lesson starts.
What if I'm running late? Please text if you're running behind.
How much do lessons cost?
| Lesson Length | Per Lesson | Approx. 4-Week Month |
|---|---|---|
| 30 minutes | $45.00 | ~$180 |
| 45 minutes | $64.00 | ~$256 |
| 60 minutes | $81.00 | ~$324 |
Monthly totals vary slightly depending on whether the month has 3, 4, or 5 lessons.
When is payment due? Payment is due at the start of each month, based on the number of lessons scheduled that month.
Do you offer a sliding scale? The sliding scale roster is currently full, but it may reopen if spots become available.
Do I need to pay for recitals or workshops? Concerts, recitals, and workshops are donation-based to help reduce barriers to participation.
What's your policy if I need to reschedule? Please give at least 1 week's notice. Make-up lessons must be used within 6 weeks. Reschedules happen in-person when possible, or online if not.
What happens if I cancel without notice? Lessons cancelled without notice (including same-day illness) cannot be rescheduled or refunded.
What should I do if I'm feeling unwell? Please stay home and call or text before your lesson to switch to an online session. For everyone's health and safety, entry may be refused if this policy isn't followed.
Do you ever cancel lessons? As an active performer, I may occasionally miss more lessons than a non-performing teacher would. In return, I bring fresh, real-world performance experience into our lessons together.
Will I lose that lesson time? Never. I will always give advance notice and make sure your learning time is rescheduled.
