Maya Killtron picked up a violin before she could tie her own shoes. School recitals turned into fiddle contests, and somewhere along the way she decided one instrument wasn't enough. Now she sings, DJs, and composes too, but at heart she's still a musician chasing the next stage.

That chase has taken her from sharing stages with Sarah McLachlan and The Arkells to regular Juno appearances, hundreds of Canadian weddings, and studio work as a singer, arranger, and composer for film and TV.

Teaching turned out to be her second calling. Across decades at the Royal Conservatory, The Beaches Suzuki School, and The Miles Nadal Suzuki School, Maya learned that every student hears music differently, some by ear, some by feel, some by the page. So she stopped teaching from a script and started teaching people, blending Suzuki method with instincts only the stage can give.

Alta Volta Strings is where those two lives finally meet. Forever a performer, always a teacher, endlessly chasing the next stage.
